“What is necessary to change a person is to change his awareness of himself.”
My Therapeutic Approach
I am trained in integrative counselling, drawing on both person centred and psychodynamic theory. This allows me to work flexibly, using a range of approaches and tools to tailor counselling sessions to each client’s individual needs. I offer both individual counselling and couples or relationship counselling.
In person centred counselling, the counsellor offers empathy, genuineness and unconditional positive regard. The client is viewed as the expert in their own life and is supported to bring to sessions whatever feels most important to explore. The focus of this approach is on the here and now.
In psychodynamic therapy, there is greater emphasis on past experiences and unconscious processes, with the counsellor taking a more active role in helping clients explore how earlier experiences may be influencing their present life.
I value the strengths of both approaches and work collaboratively with clients to shape a therapeutic experience that feels supportive, relevant and responsive to their needs. When working with couples, I also draw on transactional analysis and solution focused therapy to support communication, understanding and positive change within relationships.
Providing you with a safe space to open up
I currently offer online counselling, allowing you to access support from the comfort of your own home or during your work lunch hour, as long as you have a private space. Working online can offer greater flexibility and accessibility, while still providing a meaningful and effective therapeutic experience.
Research has shown that online therapy can be as effective as in person counselling. You can receive the support you need and book a free initial consultation to see whether this approach feels right for you.
